Student Project, Year 3
Interiors and Branding
2018
Project Concept:
HOPP Brewery is an integrated learning and hospitality space at Otago Polytechnic’s Cromwell Campus. The brewery space is used for both brewing and also houses Grain + Vine, a dining experience unique to it’s location in Central Otago.
The students here are taught to push the boundaries when it comes to craft beer in New Zealand. The brew house is dedicated to ferments that are expressions of native Central Otago flavours.
A fundamental requirement of the space is to house a functioning brewery (HOPP Brewery) with modern teaching space for up to 25 students and their lecturers/demonstrators. The interior design has been focused to optimize the learning experience by providing for a comfortable learning environment that adds to, rather than detracts from, the overall experience of being part of the Cromwell Campus.

The space provides for a seamless flow between the brewery floor, where students can gain hands-on brewing experience, with more traditional space for teaching and group work. In addition, the space provides a modern and attractive public
setting where tourists and other visitors can enjoy HOPP Brewery products and a selection of Central Otago wines and food.
Branding
Interior Perspectives
The space takes its inspiration from the Central Otago landscape and climate,the area’s reputation as a niche location for specialty food and wine, and capitalizes on Central Otago’s place as an emerging area for craft beer brewing.

// the learning needs of students enrolled in the OP’s beer brewing courses;

// the teaching requirements of OP’s staff and visiting brewers and lecturers;

// the area’s position as an attractive destination for visitors, and a place on route to the very popular destinations of Queenstown and Wanaka.
